Police in Iganga District are hunting for a man accused of murdering his 56-year-old mother following a suspected dispute over land.
The suspect, identified as Anthony Kalulu, is wanted in connection with the death of Sylvia Bakulimya, whose body was discovered buried inside her house in Kasolo Village, Bulamagi Sub-county.
According to Police, Kalulu was reportedly seen by community members on March 11, 2026 threatening his mother while demanding a land sale agreement from her.
The situation later raised suspicion among family members when Bakulimya could not be traced.
At around 3pm, Kalulu’s brother, Edward Kawoma, sent his wife to check on their mother, but she did not find her at home.
When asked about her whereabouts, Kalulu reportedly denied having any knowledge.
Concern grew later that night. At around 1am, Kawoma returned to the house to check whether their mother had come back, only to find the house locked.
Kawoma then asked his brother Kalulu, who was sleeping in a nearby house, to open it. Upon entering the house, Kawoma reportedly discovered a heap of soil in their mother’s bedroom along with blood-stained items.
Working together with local leaders and community members, the family conducted a search around the homestead and later recovered the deceased’s clothes and bedsheets with blood stains inside a pit latrine.
Suspecting foul play, Kawoma reported the matter at Iganga Central Police Station.
Police later recovered the body of Bakulimya buried inside the house. Preliminary findings indicate that the deceased sustained severe head injuries.
A team of detectives from the station visited the scene of crime and collected several exhibits, including a panga, an axe and a stick, all suspected to have blood stains.
The body was transported to Iganga General Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.
ASP Michael Kasadha, the regional Police Spokesperson for Busoga East, confirmed the incident and said investigations are ongoing as police continue searching for the suspect.
“We have recovered several exhibits from the scene and the body has been taken for postmortem. Efforts to arrest the suspect are ongoing as investigations continue,” Kasadha said.
Police have urged members of the public with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspect to report to the nearest police station.
